Amy Paul

In class on Wednesday we had the opportunity to meet Amy Paul, and get some professional advise form her. Amy is a recent graduate of University of Whitewater, where she majored in Public Relations. Amy was very personable and gave us a presentation about her past present, and future.

Before Amy found out that public relation was she passionate, she was a music major. When she switch her major she said that she felt very behind, so she wanted to get involved with PRSSA right away. While she was in PRSSA she was the professional development chair, secretary, insight editor, and regional activity coordinator. She went on to say the joining PRSSA was the best decision that she could have made in college because of the “real-word experience”, and recommends us all to get involved as soon as possible.

Besides joining PRSSA, Amy advised to us start looking for internships now! She said that if we want a summer internship we should apply for them in December. While Amy was here at Whitewater she had four internships one at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin where she was the fundraising and special event intern.  Other internships that she had were for the UWW Development office and for the MilwaukeeAdmirals. Amy challenged us to make our own internships like she did when she was the Brand Ambassador for the Quodba in Whitewater.

Amy’s Advice for Internships:
1.     Start our search early
2.     Dress appropriately
3.     Act professionally
4.     Don’t be afraid to ask questions
5.     Ask for more responsibility
6.     Create your one internship
7.     References

Something at surprises me about Amy was how successful she is for only being out of school for a few years. Also how she is still employed with the Milwaukee Admirals, which is where she had one of her internships.

Amy was a great person to bring into class to speak, is a very hard working and determined individual. You can tell that she is doing what she loves and excited to see where Public relations will take her.

  1. I love how positive Amy was about PRSSA! I just joined and all of the positive reinforcement makes me happy I did! I agree with many of your points! I cannot believe how young she is for all that she has accomplished. You can tell how motivated she is and how much hard work she has put into her professional career. Hopefully one day I can have an internship that compares to her experience with Milwaukee Admirals!

  2. You were very positive about Amy's presentation and you seemed to have truly enjoyed her presentation which is awesome! It is crazy how successful she seems at such a young age. I honestly would have never guessed that she is as young as she is. She seemed to confident and truly happy with her life so far, and I also felt that she seemed to be excited about PR's path :)
